Measurement of Magnetic and Electric Fields in Batam City
Hi #SItizen,
Surveyor Indonesia Batam Branch measures the electric and magnetic fields of transformers or electrical substations spread throughout Batam City. This work is in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Mines and Energy No. 01.P/47/MPE/1992 concerning protection against the effects of electric and magnetic fields.
Reporting to the repository of the Republic of Indonesia's health R & D agency, exposure to magnetic field radiation and electric fields for a long time can interfere with health and damage several systems/functions of the human body, such as the central nervous system, reproductive function, and blood function.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization), the threshold that does not harm the human body is 5 kV/m for electric fields and 0.3 m Tesla for magnetic fields. Therefore, the Indonesian Surveyor took measurements to ensure that the magnitude of the electric and magnetic fields did not exceed the threshold.
Measurements were also made at points 0 m, 10 m, and 30 m from the location of the transformer. This is because the electric and magnetic fields are not only at the center of the source but spread to the surrounding area.
